The Sotheby’s Auction House

Our origin – a traditional brand

In the heart of London, in New Bond Street, an exceptional auction house was founded in 1744, which was to establish a long tradition of selling the most valuable of possessions. Here, over the course of two centuries, a tradition of unparalled, authentic knowledge has developed. As the oldest company to be traded on the New York Stock Exchange (BID), Sotheby’s Auction House has a global network of 90 branches in 40 countries.

Today, Sotheby’s carries out auctions at eight locations, including New York, London, Hong Kong and Paris. Sotheby’s Financial Services are available to collectors; the only company in the world to specialise in financing art objects. Sotheby’s offer to collectors covers more than 70 categories, thus, for example S|2, the gallery business of the business area ‘Contemporary Art of Sotheby’s’, and two retail areas, ‘Sotheby’s Diamonds’ und ‘Sotheby’s Wine’.
